Want some real exotic shopping in Thailand try Phuket.
On the island all interesting thing to buy are on sale, people from everywhere send their goods because the tourists are here.
Thai consider foreigners as "walking ATM machines" to buy anything, junk or maybe of use, that includes the girls and ladyboys which everyone can hire.
This spot in the ocean is one of the places where Thai people travel to make a quick hit and definitely not only locals. Africans and other also come for the same purpose in particular Nigerians who are mainly in the drug and cheating business.
When on holiday Phuket shopping is one of the most popular activities beside of lazing on the beach. Here is more about and keep in mind wherever you go you are not alone, there are plenty of other tourists.
Looking for some souvenirs?
They are offered at every second corner in Phuket City and the beach areas such as Patong, Karon, Kata, Kamala, Surin Beach and more. There are plenty of retail stores and flimsy stalls where they sell lots of junk, some of the souvenirs are hits with tourists such as shoes, belts, shirts, fake watches, fake bling bling and other designer goods, and those are primarily available at the night markets in Patong Beach and Kata - Karon.
Patong and Phuket Town could also be exiting; several art galleries and specialty shops plus several interesting Chinese antique shops are just the right place for adventure with plenty of artwork paintings and other exotic stuff. At Patong lots of copied artwork of contemporary and old things are around. Some even come from China were there is a whole industry busy copying art paintings.
If you find something on your shopping trip and they ask a high price, start negotiation, you should get the stuff for at least 40% percent of the priced asked. In addition to souvenirs you may need to get some items you have forgotten to pack, usually clothing and health and beauty products. They are quite cheap here it is wise to purchase such things anyway before you travel back home since all this stuff is much cheaper in Thailand than anywhere in Europe and there is usually no much difference in quality.
Avoid hotels and resorts for this they usually charge much more compared to a convenient store maybe just 5 minutes away. On certain parts of Phuket are Seven Eleven stores at every 200 meter distance, beach shopping could also be a n alternative.
While vacationing in Thailand.
You will want to dine out or get some food from a local market restaurants this is usually much cheaper than anywhere in Europe or US and if you still want to cook something on your own buy the food stuff etc. in on of the big shopping malls. There are several huge malls on the island and they pack the food into very handy units easy to be prepared with some hot water, in the microwave or just eaten without heating it up.
On the island are large number of unique shops and centers, in addition to fruit markets you will see many familiar stores, such as Seven-Eleven, McDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, just to name a few. While you may enjoy shopping or dining at somehow familiar places around venture into new and exciting territory with specialty shops such as in the newer Jung Ceylon Mall at Patong Beach with dozens of restaurants and great shops plus Thai massage and some water shows at the open plaza at the center, it’s a great experience.
When buying something watch out on items you could get problems when you go back home, e.g. Italy and France are totally hysteric on copied designer goods. E.g. if you buy a green crocodile shirt they might give you a nightmare when you come back, blaming you for all kind of nonsense’s, it might be wise to remove the green croc or any other thing, place is separately and fix it again when you arrive home. Actually it’s not your problem when this designer ware in Europe has astronomical prices since the manufacturer pour a substantial part of their income into advertising and want to pull money from you to finally pay their ad agency.
Happy shopping, buy only local stuff, everything imported is relatively expensive.
