Karon waterfront is south of Patong and north of Kata.
It is very popular throughout the year because it's long stretch of good light yellow sand with an excellent infrastructure behind and short distances to the important places including only about half hour to reach the highway to the airport.
This is very important because the traffic situation gets worst every month and there is no public transport although they make lots of bla-bla but as usual they never do anything.

All this is blocked by the people who operate the limousines and tuk-tuk, there are no taxis, bus etc. Actually there is one rotten bus from the airport to town which is a flat out disgrace considering that the provincial administration tries to marketing the island as a "high - end" destination.
The only place where taxis are allowed is at the airport and there the price is about double as in Bangkok. They also have some van's available but they always tell those are full or no passenger to push the tourists into the expensive limousines. This is a awful hit and run business all directed to cheat the traveler.
