Andaman Waterfronts in the south of Thailand.
Phuket is the largest island in the country with Koh Chang being the runner up. The little problem with the latter it's practically one steep hill with narrow road dividing the water from the hill there is almost no space. It's different in Phuket, although there is a steep cliff in the center dividing east and west but there is plenty of space and flat area around.
The Andaman Sea has countless sandy waterfronts of very diverse character and several have night attractions and activities with the well known bar girls entertainment.
Some waterfronts are almost empty such as many north of Bangtao (Laguna) and others are real full of fun and action such as Patong, Karon & Kata, Nai Yang, Rawai, Surin and Kamala. In between is everything imaginable positive and negative.
Bangtao Beach is is a upmarket seafront for the luxury hotels, resorts, villas and other accommodations behind read more.
Cape Panwa Waterfront is at the south east of the island, that was the base for Mr. L. Di Caprio during the movie shooting of "The Beach" on Phi-Phi Island. A nice place only a bit hilly, read more.
Chalong Beach
Friendship Beach
Kamala Beach
Karon Beach is a medium price waterfront with a good atmosphere on a long stretch of clean sand. With plenty of hotels behind plus a busy nightlife with bars, go-go dancing and restaurants in the back. Between this and the sand is a busy road. Only one hotel has direct access to the water from the rooms, read more.
Kata Beach
Laem Sing Seafront
Laguna
Mai Khao Beach
Nai Harn Bay is at the south west coast a small wind protected waterfront right in front of the resort which is just fixed into the cliff a very attractive location overlooking the Andaman Sea read more.
This area is one of the best location on the island and is quite populated, on every corner are new real estate developments and some small villages most is in the middle price segment and because of the winding roads it’s time consuming to travel anywhere. There is a small Buddhist monastery which is very nicely made a showcase with all the craftsmanship that the country has, .
Nai Thon Beach
Nai Yang Waterfront
Nightlife is the most exciting in the southern half of Thailand.
Weather is fine except from Juli to November when the monsoon flood comes but since it is raining not continuously there is still enough tropical sunshine to make you feel fine throughout the year.
Patong is the leading seafront on the island here you will find breathtaking pictures of the most active Phuket seafront day and night.
which are very diverse, there are small ones nestled between granite boulders and long stretched such as Karon and everything in between, usually casuarinas are backdrops, this are pine trees with long needles looking quite good, palm trees in front are rather rare, there are plenty of them behind, some hotels moved palm trees to the front to give what the tourists are expecting, read more.
Beside of beaches nightlife is the reason people come to the island and that is a good choice. Some years ago a major change in the tourist pattern happen after quite a lot moved to other destinations such as Khao Lak where it is definitely less noisy and almost no tourist harassment by Thai people which can be very nasty sometimes. How came? Yes, the Russians invaded the island, in certain areas such as Chalong you hear almost only their language and in 2015 and major shift happen again now Chinese are overwhelming.
The island is the right place for great vacation in southern Thailand. Some waterfronts are among the best on this planet and naturally many hotels and resorts are around since tourism is one of the major business in the country.
Just to get you an idea about the area around, below left are Similan Islands and pictured right is the beach at Khao Lak which stretches around 10 km.

Patong beach is probably the best known, others are Kata, Karon, Kamala, Surin, Nai Harn, Mai Khao, Bangtao and more. The scene is very diverse, there are luxury accommodations at Laguna and Mai Khao plus at some other. This are an assembly of high end resorts and villas, Laguna is an area where tin mines business was thriving in the old days, now tin mines are filled up with water and look like lagoons, a pretty view and it fulfills the purpose that many people have a great luxury accommodation around the water and some Thai people and banks make lots of money with it.
Here are other seafronts of the south half.
First on the west coast and after the east side.
The best Andaman Sea seafronts are on the west coast. Beside of Patong, Karon is one of the very long beaches with one resort right on the waterfront. All other resorts here have the road in between. Also a lively nightlife with some open air go-go bars and plenty of restaurants plus some huge shopping tents along the road with all kind of items such as shoes, clothing and similar things.
Its not as big as Pratunam in Bangkok but things are cheap and they have all the stuff a traveler could need including souvenirs etc. Aside of lazing on the beach, visiting restaurants and other things to do is shopping. Here probably are the real temptations and it makes some sense since all not imported item are quite low priced.
Karon waterfront is a quiet area at the west coast, just about 10 minutes with the car or motorbike south of Patong. The “Karon beach resort” is the only accommodation which has a direct access to the sand, see the pictures below, it's a excellent location. Because of the overall length of the waterfront it never looks crowded, read more.
There is one very strange thing here, among others, its strictly forbidden to cut trees, that's a great idea, but palms are not counting as trees, yes, no yoke, so they can be cut. Naturally, how to construct a resort, villas, hotels or other accommodations when it would be not allowed to cut them trees first? It would need some thinking, so they are defined not as trees, everything clear?
Phuket beaches are plenty we show you the best, the nightlife and other in the vicinity.
we don't bore you with all kind of hotel and resorts bookings etc. means you are right here if you want straight information which is still valid after a few month. There are countless great waterfronts with yellow sand and the Andaman Sea which contrasts beautifully with a emerald to turquoise color. This is the biggest island in the country and it is located more than thousand kilometers north of the equator, the second biggest is Koh Chang south of Pattaya. With lush tropical vegetation and the Indian Ocean around it is the right location to experience great vacations we show what's up with plenty of pictures and videos.
Some waterfronts are among the best on this planet.
Naturally plenty of hotels and resorts are around, see them through the links at left, Patong beach is probably the best known in Thailand but not so much for the water, it's the crazy nightlife which makes is famous. There are no dark sand spots, only some limestone and granite cluster dot the sand from time to time. There is a real distinction between the east coast which has shallow water in front and the west coast with rather deep water, this underwater topology was one of the reason why the Tsunami swept in so forcefully.
A pretty place is the Meridien at Karon Noi hotel and beach resort located between Karon and Patong .
The waterfronts are diverse with luxury hotels and resorts at Laguna Phuket which is an assembly of high end resorts and villas at Bangtao Beach north of Patong and also at Mai Khao there also several high end resorts plus villas and apartments around, but not only there.
There is a good blend of high end accommodations and all the way down to cheap apartments for around Baht 4000,- / month in downtown. All this and a great nightlife make it a top vacation destination.
Weather is mostly sunny and the climate is eternal summer.
even during monsoon when the rain pours down, after a while the sun is shining again, this fact makes the island a genuine all year round pleasure. Very rarely is some rain for 2 or 3 days but this is offset by the constant air temperature in the high twenties.
Phuket weather follows the monsoon pattern but has somehow distinct differences to the area around such as Phang Nga and Krabi, what does that mean? It rains less because the topology allows the clouds which come in from the Indian Ocean or Andaman Sea to pass without offloading the flood. Actually they airstream is in a way that they stall at the coastal hills in the north and water the coast between Kha Lak and Ranong, read more
Southern Thailand offers a diversity of holiday related themes availability for rather moderate prices. This pricing spectrum covers a wide range in the hotel sector and services such as restaurants plus villas, bungalows, nightlife and so on, it wont end there and when getting tired get a famous Thai massage and visit Bangla road, click pics to enlarge.
The best to categorize the oceanfront is by their geographic location.
This determines the "character". If you want to go swimming into the Ocean only the west coast is relevant because at all other sites the shallow coral reefs approach the shore and even at high tide there is no depth for swimming. Actually it wont matter much because every resort and housing compound has a swimming pool and all other sea fronts are only within up to an hour away.
The beaches are very diverse, there are small sand strips nestled between limestone and granite boulders and long stretched ones such as Karon and Patong plus others on the northwest side of the island. They usually have casuarinas in the back, this are pine trees with long needles looking quite good, palm trees in front are rather rare as it is visible at the pictures.
They have been cutting most palm trees since they are "in the way" when they build a resort and they have a strange regulation. Palms are not counted as trees, (no yoke) so nobody cares when they cut them. after the foreigners start asking where are the palm-trees? Now a common view on the road is is to have a one of them loaded to be planted somewhere since there are still many left but not there where they should be.
Here are definitely some of the best sandy beaches in Phuket around.
What makes them especially attractive is they all have some infrastructure in close vicinity to use either, resorts, restaurants, massage shops, kite surfing, scuba diving, paragliding, jet-ski and other. The Thai are very creative to get some new ideas how to pull money from the tourists who are considered as "lame turtles to milk" and walking ATM machines.
No gravel beaches are around, the sand quality goes from fine to crude. West coast beaches, first (from bottom) is Kata Noi, second is Kata and third is Karon. Waterfronts with golden yellow sand are common, with real white sand not existent actually there is only one I know in Nakhon Si Thamarat south west of Ko Samui.
For a location change here is Khanom Seafront in Nakhon Si Thammarat, this is just a few kilometer south of the ferry pier for Ko Samui and Ko Phangan. A real pristine place with just two resorts and some cottages, ideal for families. Reachable via Surat Thani by bus, train and aircraft, read more.
This wont matter on Phuket anyway since the sand quality is quite good and they clean the shore, it's their life line. Actually, the further north west the lighter the sand becomes. This is a all year vacation destination since weather is fine except around the last 2 weeks in October and the first two in November when a real flood is pouring down.
This is also the biggest spot in the ocean of the country, the next biggest is Koh Chang close to the Cambodia border at Koh Kong. Behind the border are plenty of South China Sea Waterfronts but in terms of infrastructure they are no match to Thailand.
Most people coming on vacation to the island need another suitcase when they leave. This is not only a great tropical island its also the right place for a great vacation. Best is always on the west coast scenic places you probably dreamed about. The blend of natural and man-made beauty got a little less beautiful since a construction boom started a couple of years ago and myriads of labor from the north flooded the place.
Idyllic scenes of tropical island in the Andaman Sea, they are countless. This part of the Indian Ocean covering Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, India and Malaysia has countless. The fact is that most are not even used for tourism. Especially in Myanmar just about 300 km to the north are more than 1000 of them without even one hotel, something is waiting,
read more.
That even affected the beaches because people with obviously the right 'connection' were even able to put huge restaurant structures right into the sand, makes the whole less appealing.
If you want to get the right sun tan, do it carefully, the almost equatorial sun is very strong also the reflection from the water and the light sand do the rest for a quick sunburn. Means better spend a few Baht to the beach lady and lay down under a umbrella.
Weather is usually excellent because of the topography of the Andaman coast. Usually the clouds are coming in from the Indian Ocean and deliver their wet load onto the hilly coastal region of Khao Lak to Ranong and between Kawthaung (the former Victoria Point) and Myeik or Mergui further north in Myanmar. Actually Myeik, about 600 km north is one of the wettest place on earth.
The islands in the south sea.
They are absolutely “top notch” if you are looking for a holiday in the sun. This tropical waterfront invites to laze around, get some suntan, and have a massage or just sleep. But important make sure you have an umbrella and some lotion, if not the almost equatorial sun will burn you within an hour and after no sand for a week.
Plenty of things to do day and night, suitable and reasonable priced accommodations are available everywhere which is a real asset to feel good in the country almost nothing is really overpriced means your vacation can fit the budget. This could be the reason for your next trip into the region.
The waterfronts where there are tourists are clean where there are no tourists sometimes not so much taken care of. While there are no real white sands strips there are for sure enough with pretty yellow ones. The most famous on the “Pearl of the Andaman” is “Patong Beach” with the ultimate relaxed lifestyle. Here the guys really can chase the Thai girls and they like it since many make money with it.
It is also easy to come along on a smooth manner since there is always someone around who speaks some English although quire rudimentary, but for basics it’s enough. On the other hand almost all problems arise from misunderstandings, a typical is their using of the word “farang” which defines all “Caucasian” type of people and is not very positive taken by many tourists. The fact is it means nothing negative because they simple don’t know where you come from so what else they should say.
If ever serious problems come up.
Usually at an accident, stay cool and call the police. Keep in mind what ever happen they will always blame you, they will never put the blame to any local people it won’t matter whatever has happen. This is a dogma which you can’t work around even when you get a lawyer who will make a lot of bla-bla pull your money (you are the cash cow) and achieve nothing.
If you are with rented vehicle let them handle it, they know how to do it and stay out of it. The police finally will ask for money which will go into their pocked instead as a penalty to the state. That’s the way it is and it won’t matter you pay here or there.
The island has plenty of alternatives to laze around on the seafront for things to do on your just rent a car or scooter explore some waterfalls, the zoo, aquarium or book a daytrip into Phangngabay. There is also a shooting range for some fun or explore the jungle and make a quad bike trek or maybe just some hiking.
During October - November the weather pattern changes.
a little bit since the wet stuff comes from the other side over the South China Sea and brings torrential rain. Extreme flooding are the result but a big part of this flooding is just because the people don't clean ditches and make no escape channels for the water.
A beach massage is available at almost every waterfront. usually some fat ugly women from the north are doing this job. Beside of this type of massage are other shops dedicated to the guys with a sexy ending, notable Christine Massage at Patong and Pearl Hotel in the city.
There are some other massage shops along various streets and elsewhere were the ladies do the famous special Thai massage for the guys and more. To find a massage shop just look around where you see a couple of pretty girls sitting in front of the house. Do some bargaining don't pay just what they ask for tourists from all over the world are around. From
Similan Island beach |
Since there are plenty of islands around other marvelous seafronts at the Andaman Sea can be explored such as on Similan Islands.
